New Poll Shows Crist Still Leading Senate Primary Race

A new statewide poll shows Charlie Crist's approval ratings slipping as governor but in his race for the US Senate, Crist still leads his closest primary challenger by double digits. The Miami Herald/St. Petersburg Times poll conducted last week shows 42 percent of Floridians approve of Crist's performance as Governor. That's his lowest rating since he took office in January 2007. However, when it comes to race for the US Senate seat vacated by Mel Martinez, Crist leads Former Florida House Speaker Marco Rubio 50 Percent to 28 percent with 22 percent undecided. On the Democratic side, 26 percent would vote for US Congressman Kendrick Meek in the senate primary, but 68 percent were undecided. In the state's other big 2010 contest, the race for governor, Florida's Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink and Attorney General Bill McCollum are very close in the poll. 37 percent of the respondents would vote for McCollum and 38 percent favored Sink. The poll of 600 registered voters was conducted last week. The margin of error is plus or minus 4 percent.
