Crist Wants Grand Jury To Probe Corruption

Governor Charlie Crist has petitioned the Florida Supreme Court to empanel a grand jury to investigate a recent rash of crimes committed by public officials in South Florida. The announcement follows the arrests of two elected officials and a well-connected Republican Party donor in Broward County Alan Mendelsohn, a top Republican fundraiser helped raise money for Crist and was a part of his transition team in 2006. Mendelsohn is now involved in the string of arrests relating to alleged political corruption. But Crist says he's looking at all corruption throughout the state and he says the grand jury would return indictments and provide recommendations about how to improve government.
