Congressional Healthcare Leader Tours Orlando Clinic

August 20, 2009 -- The chair of the US House Subcommittee on Health was in Central Florida Thursday to study a local alternative to traditional health insurance. New Jersey Congressman Frank Pallone toured an employer-based medical clinic operated by Orlando hotel owner Harris Rosen. The Rosen Medical Center has been around since 1991 on the grounds of Rosen's Quality Inn on International Drive. It now provides healthcare for thousands of employees at seven Rosen hotels. Rosen's company pays out of pocket for everything above patient copays, but the firm does not pay a third-party insurer for a coverage plan. Rosen officials say the company has saved about 40 million dollars in premiums and worker productivity over the past ten years. Representative Pallone visited the Rosen clinic at the invitation of Orlando Congressman Alan Grayson. The tour grew out of a meeting between Grayson and Harris Rosen in June. Rosen thinks his clinic should be a model for healthcare nationwide.
