May 22, 2009-- How can the weather impact a Shuttle's return. Think back on STS-121-- Houston cleared the vehicle for landing at Kennedy Space Center, and after the Shuttle fired its jets and started the trip back, the clouds closed in. Camera views from the spacecraft, which showed what the astronauts could see, showed nothing but clouds during final approach until just seconds before the runway appeared and the Shuttle was on the ground--whew!
