May 1, 2009-- April 30 marked the end of a Congressional mandate for NASA to take no action that would prevent extra Space Shuttle missions. May 1 meant pink slips for one hundred and sixty contract workers who built spare parts for the Shuttle. The agency says nine hundred jobs will be gone by the Fall.

Officials with United Space Alliance say none of the layoffs impact Space Coast workers since their job is to assemble parts built elsewhere. One thought for the future of KSC is to make it over into a so called "Federal City."  Here's the link to my story on that...
