As Unemployment Rises, Workforce Central Florida Closes an Office

December 18, 2008 -- As unemployment reaches levels not seen in 15 years, a local agency that helps the jobless find jobs is making its own cutbacks. Tomorrow, Workforce Central Florida will close its main administrative offices in Lake Mary. That means clients in Seminole County who rely on the agency's computers to find job listings, and counselors who help job seekers put together resumes and find training, will have to travel to the agency's office on East Colonial Drive in Orlando. The agency is funded through a combination of state and federal funds. It has seen that funding erode for the past eight years, including a crippling two million dollar cut this year. 90.7's David Pitman stopped by the Lake Mary office to talk with Workforce Central Florida CEO Gary Earl about the office shutting down.
