Monday August 18th

Hi. I’m Secily Wilson, here’s a look at your local arts scene this week with The Arts Connection Minute for Monday August 18th.

Get into the Olympic spirit with the exhibit “Chinese Kites by artist Sheng-li Gao” now on display through August 28th at the Museum of Arts & Sciences in Daytona. And Thursday at 1 p.m. you can join a guided tour with the artist himself. Call 386-255-0285 or visit moas.org for more information.

Discover “Painting for Joy: New Japanese Paintings in the 1990's” a fine art exhibit closing this week at The Cornell Fine Arts Museum in Winter Park. This is the only place you can see this unique exhibit in the state of Florida. So visit rollins.edu/cfam for more information.

Looking for a child friendly event that will jolt your childhood memories? Well the Storybook Theater Company presents, “The AristoCats” based on the 1970 Disney film. Wednesday August 20th

Tonight, The Orlando Hispanic Film Festival is screening "Pleure en Silence" featuring the winner of last year’s best male actor, Guy LeCluyse. The screening takes place at 7 p.m. at Fashion Square Mall. Visit ohfilmfestival.com for more information.

Friends of local musician Bob Rafkin invite you to a benefit to help support him during his battle with cancer. Thursday August 21st

Hi. I’m Secily Wilson, here’s a look at your local arts scene this week with The Arts Connection Minute for Thursday August 21st.

The Center for Contemporary Dance has a weekend line up you won’t want to miss.

On Saturday at 4 p.m. Patelworks Dance Theater presents “The Cosmic Dance” a performance mixing classical Indian movement with contemporary dance performed to live music and vocals.

And at 7 p.m. peek inside Pandora’s Box with “Untold Stories” presented by the Emotions Dance Company.

Then Sunday at 2 p.m. help keep arts education alive with “See(k)ing” a heartfelt dance performance by the children of the Hope Community Center, a resource center for the children of migrant workers. This performance brings to life the emotions they write in their personal journals. Visit thecenterfordance.org for more information.

Friday August 22nd

Hi. I’m Secily Wilson, here’s a look at your local arts scene this week with The Arts Connection Minute for Friday August 22nd.

Tonight at 9, Doug Rhodehamel, creator of the Spore Project, presents his latest work, Anenome for one night only at Studio 808 in Orlando. This massive work of art is comprised of recycled plastic bottles, light and sound. Visit studio808orlando.com or call 407-756-3353 for more information.

Then on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. join Larry Hoppen, the lead singer of Orleans, with the Beth Schafer Band at Concert for Burma, a benefit concert for the cyclone victims of Berma.
