The Price of Our Thirst: The Department of Environmental Protection Talks About Proposed Withdrawls from St. Johns River

(June 27, 2008) -- This week, in our series, "In Depth: The Price of Our Thirst", 90.7 and WMFE-Tv have been examining the controversy surrounding the proposed withdrawals from the St. Johns River to meet the needs of Central Florida's growing population. Florida's Department of Environmental Protection has been virtually silent on the issue, unlike the very vocal stand it has taken in the lengthy battle with Georgia over water that flows into the Apalachicola River and Bay in the Panhandle. 90.7's David Pitman asked Janet Llewellyn, a water resource manager for the DEP to explain why the department hasn't had much to say about the St. Johns.
