The Orlando Fringe Festival continues this week shows run tonight from 6 until midnight. The POSTSECRET exhibit opened this weekend at the Brevard Art Museum, which is the only Florida museum that will host this exhibit. It features over 400 postcards created anonymously—the cards share a true secret never before revealed. Also at the Melbourne museum is the 2008 Juried Exhibition A new exhibit just opened at the Orlando Museum of Art it’s another in the museum’s picture book series….The World of William Joyce features more than 60 original works of art created for Joyce’s popular children's books, including the "Rolie Polie Olie" series. And This Wednesday from 1-4, the museum has a special Home School event based on the William Joyce exhibit its for home-schooled students in grades 3 through 8.
Tuesday, 5/20 The Southeast Museum of Photography will have an Opening Reception Tuesday night from 6 to 8 for two exhibits one by Ed McDonald, an award-winning alumni of the photography program at Daytona Beach College. The other is the first juried exhibition by graduates of the program. Also at the museum, Z O N A a portrait of Siberian Prison Camps will close Friday Other exhbiits closing soon are The Annual Juried Student Show at Valencia Community College’s East Campus Gallery. Three exhibits close Sunday at the Museum of Florida Art in Deland - CONTEMPORARY PRINTS FROM THE DOROTHY MITCHELL COLLECTION; THE ART OF CLARENCE VAN DUZER; and EQUUS 4: CELEBRATING THE ART OF THE HORSE and closing next Monday, May 26th is AMERICAN CHRONICLES: THE ART OF NORMAN ROCKWELL at the Orlando Museum of Art.
Wednesday, 5/21 You can enjoy Florida singer/songwriters up close and personal tonight when JD Smith, Ennis Pruitt, and Rog Lee perform a songwriter’s roundtable at the Plaza Theatre it starts at 7:00 tonight at the Plaza Theatre, presented by Central Florida Folk www.theplazatheatre.com These plays close this weekend The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe at Orlando Repertory Theatre The Mikado at the Sands Theater Center and Jester Theater’s production of MOONLIGHT AND MAGNOLIAS at the Garden Theatre www.wgtheatre.org and there’s an Opening Reception tomorrow night for an exhibit by Judy Gilmer. Thursday, 5/22 Sharon Badal, author of SWIMMING UPSTREAM A LIFESAVING GUIDE TO SHORT FILM DISTRIBUTION is in town tonight for 2 events. She’ll do a booksigning from 5 to 6:30 tonight at Urban Think Bookstore, and then the Orlando Film Festival will have a Reception for Badal at 7 plus a screening of a short film from the Tribeca Festival. A new film opens tomorrow at the Enzian Theatre in Maitland CONTROL is the story of the English rock band Joy Division. There’s an Opening Reception tomorrow night from 5 to 7 for an exhibit by contemporary artist Rob Pruitt. It’s at the Pabst Visitor Center Gallery at the Atlantic Center for the Arts in New Smyrna Beach, where Pruitt is currently a master artist-in-residence. and The Witnesses is at the Plaza Theatre this weekend the musical is part two The Rock & The Rabbi trilogy. Performances are Friday at 7:30 and Saturday at 3 and 7:30
Friday, 5/23 The Brevard Children’s Chorus will present their annual Spring Concert tonight at 7:30 at Rockledge Presbyterian Church. Enjoy 3 harps in concert tomorrow night at the Dr. Philips Center on North Orange Avenue. Performances are this afternoon at 3 and again at 7:30 and you can enjoy TWO exhibits featuring the work of Norman Rockwell today, tomorrow and Monday.
