Monday, 5/5 There’s a Reception tomorrow night at the Osceola Center for the Arts for the Annual Juried Art Show. It runs from 6 to 8 This is the last week to see an exhibit by James Michaels at the Brevard Art Museum in Melbourne and after that exhibit closes, the museum will be hosting one called POST SECRETS - that is a collection of anonymous, true secrets written and designed on post cards. The Brevard Art Museum has teamed up with the county libraries to give YOU a chance to create your own POSTSECRET postcard. There will be creation stations at five Brevard County libraries where residents can make a postcard, which may become part of this special exhibition. Or, if you’d rather share a memory, those are also being collected by the library for a book.

Thursday, 5/8 Surfscape Contemporary Dance Theatre is a professional company in Volusia County. Its next production RAW is Friday & Saturday at the Atlantic Center for the Arts in New Smyrna Beach. The Central Florida Dance Festival is Saturday there are 2 performances 2pm and 7:30 at the Johnny Holloway Theatre, which is located at Harwood-Watson Dance Studio Music Live will give a tribute concert for moms this Sunday at Lake Sumter Community College. Performers include pianist Bill Doherty, tenor Mark Gizzi-Schmidt, jazz singer Debbie Garrett, and bass Samuel Reynolds. The Mother’s Day concert starts at 3 and also on Sunday, the Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra will give its final concert of the season at 4pm at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Center
Friday, 5/9 Volvo Mayfaire by-the-Lake is this weekend in Lakeland it’s one of Central Florida’s oldest outdoor art festivals with over 180 artists from around the country, as well as entertainment and children’s activities. There will also be fireworks at 9pm In conjunction with the art festival, the Polk Museum of Art in Lakeland has a new exhibit of purchase awards from 25 years of the Mayfaire by-the-Lake art festival The band Baron Von Bear will have a CD release party Saturday night at the Backbooth 4 local bands will be performing at the downtown Orlando club, starting at 7 and The Orlando Philharmonic closes its season with the Verdi Requiem the orchestra is joined by 4 soloists and the Bach Festival Choir. The concert is Saturday night at 8 at the Bob Carr.
Saturday, 5/10 Several art exhibits open this weekend at Florida Southern College you can see the Lakeland Art Guild 38th Annual Spring Show There’s an Opening Reception tonight from 7-10 for a solo show by artist IDITH LEVY it’s called UNKNOWN VISIONS, and features paintings and Mixed Media work; you can see it at the Office Gallery and Art Studio in downtown Orlando www.MuseInArt.com There’s another Opening Reception tonight from 6 to 9 for an art show by Carl Knickerbocker. It’s called Confessions of an Urban Primitive at Jeanine Taylor Folk Art in Sanford and at the Maitland Art Center, THE ART OF ROD REEVES opens this weekend - Reeves taught in the public school system for decades and has created his own art work as well as book illustrations.
