Fmr. Hurricane Ctr. Chief Max Mayfield Talks Storm Forecasts, Legacy (April 3, 2008) -- The National Hurricane Conference continues today in Orlando. The chairman of the conference is a name familiar to many in Florida Max Mayfield the former director of the National Hurricane Center. 90.7's David Pitman caught up with Mayfield at the Rosen Centre Hotel, where the conference is taking place. They started off by talking about hurricane forecasts, specifically the ones we get so often from Dr. William Gray of Colorado State University. Dr. Gray is set to update the 2008 forecast next week. For the last couple of years, his predictions have called for several more storms than actually formed. David asked Mayfield about whether that affects the value of those forecasts.
