Challenges For Military Recruiters, Five Years After Start of Iraq War

(March 25, 2008) -- 90.7 and WMFE-TV are spending several days taking stock of five years since the start of the U.S.-lead invasion of Iraq. One of the many challenges the military has faced during the war is meeting its recruitment goals. Some branches missed their targets for new members as American casualties rose, and the popularity of the war declined. That has been helped somewhat by modifying qualifications and increasing incentives for people to sign up. 90.7's David Pitman sat down with Florida Army National Guard Master Sergeant Tom Davis, who oversees all recruiters in Central Florida. He says the larger cash bonus for enlistees has made a difference.
