Weather Radios Versus Tornado Sirens

(February 22, 2008) Volusia County is waiting for more grant money from the state before it resumes its program of handing out emergency weather radios to people in need. That program has been especially popular lately, with the county quickly running through 1,000 radios it offered up after last week's storms. Those storms knocked out service to weather radios across Central Florida. 90.7's David Pitman called Charles Craig, the Emergency Management Operations Coordinator for Volusia County. He says the decision to rely more on weather radios than warning sirens came down to money.
