The Arts Connection Minute lists arts events across Central Florida - it's heard weekdays at 3:04pm Monday, 1/21 At the Lowndes Shakespeare Center, Thread and the Orange County Division of Cultural Affairs present WORK PLACE: Symposium and Exhibition on Public Art. This symposium begins this afternoon and ends this evening at 9, and brings together politicians, artisits, and museum officials to speak on the positives and negatives of public art. A new exhibit called L.I.F.E opens today. This exhibition will feature 25 artists painting doors using the theme of L.I.F.E. Love is for Everyone. These individual efforts will be on display at the Terrace Gallery at City of Orlando, City Hall. The reception for this exhibit is this Thursday from 5:30p.m. to 7:30p.m., in the City Hall Rotunda. This is your last week to see paintings by artist Chidi Kwubiri at Millenia Fina Art. And the last week to view The Osceola Center for the Arts 2nd Regional Juried Exhibition MATRIARCHS AND MADONNAS, which closes this Friday. And at the Melbourne Civic Theater, THE LAST TOUCHY FEELY DRAMA ON THE AMERICAN STAGE finishes its run this weekend.
Tuesday, 1/22 Tomorrow, the Orlando Museum of Art will host its weekly gallery program called Questions for the Curious, from noon till 12:30. Guests will have the opportunity to ask museum staff about works in the galleries. And the Southeast Museum of Photography continues its MUSEUM LECTURE SERIES tomorrow night at 7 with "Buddhist Art and Culture in Tibet: An Academic and Historical Perspective." The Savages is finishing its run at the Enzian Theater this week. The Savages stars Academy Award nominee Laura Linney, Academy Award winner Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Tony Award winner Philip Bosco. And this Friday is the opening reception for artist RICARDO MANUEL DIAZ's exhibit A SILENT SEASON. It begins at 6:30 at the Anita S. Wednesday, 1/23 MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM by August Wilson opens Thursday at Seminole Community College. And Valencia Community College will host a talk by best-selling novelist Lisa See. A reception will be held tomorrow afternoon from 1-2:15, followed by an appearance and talk by the author from 2:30 - 3:45 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center. In addition, the Southeast Museum of Photography will host a panel presentation tomorrow evening called, "The Soul of Iran: Culture, Society, and Politics." There will be a welcome reception from 5 to 6:30 with a preview of the Persian Visions exhibition prior to the panel presentation. Tomorrow night at 7:30 the Lakeside Music Room House presents Aubrey Atwater and Elwood Donnelly performing Appalachian style song and dance. This event is in Winter Haven, and requires a reservation.
Thursday, 1/24 Tomorrow evening from 5:30 to 8, Gallery One Artists in downtown Kissimmee will hold their monthly artists reception featuring artist Marty Spears and special guest artist Shalini Tandon. http://www.galleryoneartists.com /And tomorrow begins The Sands Theater Center's 2008 installment of the DeLand Theatre Festival. The festival is a ten day celebration of theatrical presentations, with performances ranging from comedy to drama to mystery. The festival features local talent working with professional directors from New York, Los Angeles, and London. This Saturday New Smyrna Beach hosts its monthly Art Walk on historic Flagler Avenue from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. More than 120 resident artists and dozens of visiting artists will be present, and several galleries along the avenue will host free wine and cheese receptions from 3-5. The Thom Chambers Duo will perform a free concert after the Art Walk.

Saturday, 1/26 Tomorrow Central Florida Folk presents Steve Gillette and Cindy Mangsen at Lue Gardens at 2:30. Sunday afternoon at 3 the Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra will give its Annual Kiwanis Concert at 1st United Methodist Church of Orlando. And Nora Lee Garcia will perform a free flute concert for the Faculty Art Series Sunday at 3 at the UCF Music Rehearsal Hall. The King Center will host a 3 o'clock matinee performance of CHERRYHOLMES, dubbed America's first family of bluegrass. www.kingcenter.com
