A look at PKZ - the Parramore Kidz Zone - an initiative by the City Orlando to lower poverty, crime and teen pregnancy in Parramore.  It's modeled after the well-known Harlem Children's Zone in New York City, and ideas often come from the kids themselves through TOP - Teens of Parramore.

One of the art programs sponsored by PKZ is P.L.A.Y. - the Parramore League of Artistic Youth, led by local professional artist Everett Spruill.  The kids designed a website to sell their artwork.

Orlando Ballet opens its new season this weekend with Orlando Pops - Friday and Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 2 at the Bob Carr.  Also on Saturday at 11am is the company's Family Series production of Rumpelstiltskin, choreographed by School Director Peter Stark.

Another dance event this weekend is the 4th Happenstance at Harwood-Watson Dance Studio, featuring the work of 12 Central Florida choreographers.

The Orlando Chorale opens its season Sunday at 3 at 1st United Methodist Church of Orlando, with Vivaldi's Glorida and music of Handel.


Bill Dudley looks at the popularity of painting murals on public buildings depicting local heritage (P.L.A.Y. did such a project this summer at the Callahan Center in Parramore).  A number of them are featured in Lake Placid and DeLand.
