Click here to listen to Part 1 ART NEWS - The Brevard Cultural Alliance is offering two forums that are open to both members and non-members. A workshop on financial reporting for non-profits on August 22, from 9-11am, at the Government Center in Viera. Then, on Saturday August 25 at 5:30pm, there's a forum for emerging leaders in non-profit arts groups at the Brevard Zoo (which is open free after 5pm). The Orlando Opera Studio Artists were announced this week - soprano Angela Mortellaro, mezzo Sarah Limper, tenor Jon-Michael Ball and baritone Nimrod Weisbrod. The Orlando Science Center has hired Lynn Sand as the new Vice President of External Relations. Internationally-known playwrigth Deborah Brevoort has joined the National Advisory Council for the Women Playwrights' Initiative. Legendary Florida is a collection of paintings by Jackson Walker, recreating moments in Florida history. It's at the historic Volusia County Courthouse for at least the next 3 years. The Museum of Florida Art (former DeLand Museum of Art) purchased the entire collection, and worked with Volusia County schools to develop an inter-disciplinary curriculum to improve the writing skills of 4th, 5th and 8th grade students. The collection's website offers a variety of resources for teachers and the general public. Click here to listen to Part 2 ART HIGHLIGHTS - THREAD is an arts collective - they have a 1-night show, Make Haste, Saturday night, Aug. 18 from 8-11pm at the Cherry Street Studios in Winter Park. Tonight (Aug. 16) is the 3rd Thursday art event at galleries throughout downtown Orlando. Summer Shakespeare opens this weekend at the Moonlight Warehouse Theatre in Clermont. And, this is the final week to see the exhibit, African Metalwork and Currency, at the Zora Neale Hurston Museum of Fine Arts in Eatonville.
It began at the Central Florida Theatre Alliance, then became the Performing Arts Alliance. Now, the Arts and Cultural Alliance of Central Florida has a new mission - audience development...community awareness of all that the cultural community has to offer. The focus of that effort is the new Red Chair Project website.
