Orlando Opera opens its 49th season this weekend with the Saint-Saens opera, Samson and Delilah, featuring the acclaimed Denyce Graves. General Direcor Robert Swedberg talks about the opera, as well as changes in the company's structure and other programming, in this season preview.  Calendar Info

The Orlando Opera Resident Artist Program is offering 3 tour programs The Mini MAGIC FLUTE, a 40-minute version of Mozart's opera, set in a medieval comic book style intended for K-5 grade. PIRATES! is a 50-minute version of Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance and is designed for Middle/High School audiences. PASSION, POWER, & PERIL is a blend of famous solos and ensembles from both operas and musicals for adult audiences, intended for colleges, corporations and clubs. The Jewish Community Center offers a wide range of cultural activities intended not only for Jewish audiences, but for the entire community. Director Al Krulick talks about this week's Jewish Film Festival at the Enzian Theatre in Maitland, as well as the opening concert in the Harriet Lake Concert Series.

As Music Director of La Nouba, Benoit Glazer has used his considerable musical connections to enrich the community through the Timucua Foundation, offering a monthly home concert series, CD projects and lately - benefit concerts. This year's Orlando Brass Festival is Monday at Boone High School and it raises funds for the school's band and choral programs. Performers include Glazer's friend Jens Lindemann, who is a former member of the famed Canadian Brass. 90.7's Dave Glerum talks with Benoit about the foundation and the second brass festival. Toxic Audio has achieved some national fame with a Drama Desk award for their off-Broadway shows in New York, but they still perform frequently in their hometown. This Saturday night, they give 2 shows at CityJazz at University Citywalk, with their unique brand of a capella pop and jazz.

This week's Poetic Logic segment has another installment of the Poets on Poets series, with DeLand's Terri Witek reading a poem that inspired her - John Ashbery's What Is Poetry, (text of poem) and one of her own poems from her recent book, Carnal World.
