This week, a number of SEASON PREVIEWS, beginning with Orlando Ballet. The company is under new leadership, following last fall's death of Fernando Bujones, and Bruce Marks intends to turn them into a world-class ballet, as had been Bujones' dream. Their season opens this weekend with A Midsummer Night's Dream. Other productions are an Evening of George Balanchine, a re-staging of Fernando Bujones' Spartacus and a major opera house production of Swan Lake. The Nutcracker will be at the Osceola Performing Arts Center, and as the new resident ballet company of the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, they will take Nutcracker and Swan Lake to the west coast venue. There are also special Gala performances - Bravo Bujones in November and in April, a 25th Annivesary Gala for the Orlando Ballet School. For information, call the ballet at 407-426-1733. SEASON PREVIEWS from Theatre Downtown, where Frank Hilgenburg has A Little Shop of Horrors and A Christmas Carol planned.

The Bay Street Players is in Eustis in Lake County, and artistic director David Clevinger has been working to refurbished the historic State Theatre. They will stage The Odd Couple, The Taffetas, On Borrowed Time, Do Patent Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up, Love, Sex And Irs and The Sound Of Music. For information, call 352.357.7777.

Also in Lake County is the Mount Dora Theatre Company; Joel Warren is their new artistic director; his first production closes this weekend - Singin' in the Rain; other shows are The Nerd, Damn Yanhkees, Rumors, and Blithe Spirit . The UCF Consevatory Theatrehas already finished one production, and two others close this weekend. Kate Ingram, the interim artistic director, is directing Anna in the Tropics in the main campus black box theatre, and also closing is Baby at the News Journal Center in Daytona Beach, where UCF has a graduate program in musical theatre in residence at Seaside Music Theatre. Other productions are Fiddler On The Roof, Don Juan Comes Back From The War, The Marriage Of Figaro (the play on which Mozart based his opera), Shapeshifter, and The Rocky Horror Show, , as well as two One-Act festivals, an original black box show, a Celebration of Dance, and a musical theatre cabaret showcase in Daytona. Cracker Music -- Bill Dudley looks at the music that reflects the history and values of this unique people.

Our final SEASON PREVIEW for this week comes from the Concert Series at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Oviedo, where Judy Duda started a music series 13 years ago. It's grown to 9 widely-attended concerts which are all free to the public. This Sunday, the Orlando Philharmonic brings their first Focus Series concert to Oviedo, with Vivaldi's Autumn and other seasonal works. Upcoming concerts include two by the UCF Symphony, the very popular holiday concert by the Brass Band of Central Florida (now with a matinee and evening performance), the Orlando Concert Band, the Lutheran Cantata Choir and violinist Ayako Yonetani.
