Prosecutors Drop Charge in Case Involving Scandal-Plagued Expressway Authority

July 30, 2014 | WMFE, Orlando - Prosecutors are dropping a misdemeanor charge against the girlfriend of a former state representative. Rebekah Hammond now will be available testify against Chris Dorworth and Scott Batterson, a former board member of the now-defunct Orlando-Orange County Expressway Authority.

Hammond, Dorworth and Batterson were accused of violating the state's Sunshine Law in the ouster of the authority's former director, Max Crumit.

Dorworth and Batterson are still facing charges.

The charges relate to communication that was allegedly carried out between expressway authority board members about Crumit’s employment.

The Orlando-Orange County Expressway Authority has since been replaced with a new regionwide tolling authority.

The Central Florida Expressway Authority took over in June.

It will oversee a 109-mile expressway system in Central Florida and include representation from Lake, Osceola and Seminole counties.
