Response Shaky for Local Police Officer with Alleged KKK Ties

Claims that a former Central Florida police officer with alleged ties to the KKK was working undercover don't seem to be holding up. The development comes from Fruitland Park Police Chief Terry Isaacs.

Officer George Hunnewell was dismissed and Deputy Chief David Borst resigned last week after the FBI and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement alleged they once joined a KKK chapter.

Ann Hunnewell says she and her ex-husband did become members of the white supremacist group. But, she says were investigating it undercover for former Police Chief Mark Isom. Isaacs says his predecessor denies that.

Isaacs says: "I went out and located former Chief Mark Isom, and I have a sworn statement from him, stating that he did not have knowledge of any such activity on their part, he did not approve it, and that he would not have approved that."

Isom is banned from serving as a police officer in Florida after admitting he lied about his education. Another Fruitland Park officer resigned in 2009 over alleged KKK ties.

In fact, Isaacs says, only two officers who served under Isom are left. Isaacs says he’s trying revamp his department.
