Central Florida Gets New Regionwide Tolling Authority

June 20, 2014 | WMFE, Orlando -- A regionwide tolling authority will replace the scandal-plagued Orlando-Orange County Expressway Authority. That's under legislation Gov. Rick Scott signed into law Friday.

The Central Florida Expressway Authority will take over for the Orlando-Orange County Expressway Authority effective immediately.

It also will include representation from Lake, Osceola and Seminole counties. It will oversee a 109-mile expressway system in Central Florida.

A nine-member board will include the mayors of Orlando and Orange County and also three gubernatorial appointees.

Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs says the new board will be more accountable to taxpayers.

The Orlando-Orange County Expressway Authority faced multiple allegations of corruption and violations of the state's Sunshine Law.
