Circuit Judge Debra Nelson tossed out one of four allegations in the George Zimmerman versus NBC Universal libel suit.
In court documents, Zimmerman claims that NBC portrayed him as a racist by airing an edited clip of a 911 call he made just before he shot and killed Trayvon Martin.
Zimmerman’s lawyers say the network edited his call in a defamatory manner. But NBC claims that shooting Trayvon Martin made the former neighborhood watch volunteer a public figure, and that there is no evidence showing the network acted with actual malice.
Judge Nelson also presided over Zimmerman’s criminal case in 2012.
