UF Joins Consortium of Schools Who Will Share Educational Content

June 11, 2014 | WMFE, Orlando - The University of Florida has joined a partnership with three other public research universities nationwide to improve the sharing of educational content.

Unizin is the brainchild of a consortium of four public research universities on a mission to build what they’re calling an "ecosystem for digital education."

The website will host different types of course material created by educators from all four universities, like syllabi, notes, videos or online lectures.

UF Vice President and Chief Information Officer Elias Eldayrie says this is a game changer for students.

“When I went to college every time I needed something, I went to the library," Eldayrie says. "What this environment will allow us to do is actually bring the library to the classroom. And now they have access to it at their fingertips.”

Unizin will also track analytics to help instructors see what materials work best for students, according to UF Associate Provost for Teaching and Technology Andy McCollough.

“What are the best engagement tools for students when they’re in the process of learning? Is the best engagement tool a quiz, a homework, a conversation? Well, let’s try all of those out and look at the resulting student learning outcomes associated with each,” McCollough says.

The University of Michigan, Colorado State University and Indiana University have also signed on and all four universities will pledge $1 million each over the next three years to develop the website.
