Governor Scott To Authorize New Regional Expressway Authority

May 21, 2014 | WMFE Orlando- Governor Rick Scott says he will sign a new bill that will transform the current Orlando-Orange County Expressway Authority into the Central Florida Expressway Authority.

The new expressway authority will include Orange, Osceola, Seminole and Lake Counties.

This change comes after former Expressway Authority board member Scott Batterson was indicted on solicitation and bribery charges.

Given the controversy surrounding the agency, UCF Political Science Professor Aubrey Jewett believes this new bill is worth a try.

“There’s just been so many problems and issues with that transportation authority over the last five to seven years that it seems like a structural change, we might as well try it," says Jewett.

"Right? It couldn’t be worse”

That structural change will include a new board of members.

Three of the nine board members will be appointed by the governor.

Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs will also sit on the board, and the remaining four members will be appointed by the heads of the counties.
