Update: 'Decent Start' for First Day of Revenue Service on SunRail

The goal for the commuter train is 4,300 boardings per day by the end of the first year, so Monday's tally was described as a 'decent start'

Rail officials say the free service built interest in SunRail with more than 10,000 passenger boardings per day over the past two weeks.

A mix of commuters and joyriders hopped on SunRail for the first day of revenue service.

Despite having to pay, some passengers like Orlando resident Diana Joval are still using the train service for fun this week.

“It’s a joyride yes. I’m so excited like a child,” said Joval.

The twelve-stop train line runs from Debary to South Orlando.

Tickets start at $2 per trip.

Buying a ticket wasn't without its problems for some riders- although Orlando resident Aaron Cutter said, in the end it was a fairly simple process.

“The first booth I walked up to wasn’t working I had to go and find another person there, but they’ve got people standing around to help people get through and order their tickets”
