Universal Orlando Hiring 3,500 Workers, Increasing Pay May 7, 2014 | WMFE, Orlando--Universal Orlando is ramping up efforts to hire 3,500 new employees with online and in-person job fairs this month. Like Disney and SeaWorld, Universal is hiring for the summer – but it’s also looking for permanent staff. It needs workers for expansions to CityWalk and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Universal Communications Vice President Tom Shroder says a May 10 virtual job fair will have same-day call backs. “Today, one of the first stops people make as their job search begins is online and through a lot of websites,” he says. “We have a really powerful job site. It’s called Universaljobs.com. We want to bring people there, give them an opportunity to experience our destination virtually and talk with us virtually – but then, of course, follow up with the very necessary in-person, face-to-face opportunity." Universal CityWalk will host an in-person open house on May 13. This year’s base wage is rising from $8 to $9 an hour. “Really, the increase to $9 an hour for start employees is, is just part of a long-standing strategy we have, which is to make sure we’re doing just the right things to attract just the right candidates,” Shroder explains. Disney World is negotiating with unions for a possible base wage increase from $8.03 an hour to $10 an hour. SeaWorld’s seasonal, hourly pay is in the eight- to ten-dollar range. |
