The election was won by Regina Hill, a local nurse and political newcomer.

Hill beat out Juan Lynum, whose mother Daisy Lynum previously held the seat for 16 years.

District 5 includes parts of the West side of the City of Orlando, with strong ties to Parramore.

But Tawanna Gordon, a Lynum campaign volunteer, said the district is about more than just the Parramore area itself.

"It’s not just the Parramore district, where a lot of people just focus on that.  That district encompasses a lot," said Gordon.

“We need to have someone there that is is going to be able to understand the whole district so-to-speak."

The election was marred by controversy.

Hill supporters claimed Lynum does not live in the district and Lynum highlighted Hill’s past arrests.

Lynum is currently under investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement in relation to his homestead exemption.
