SunRail Grand Opening Outlines Future Expansion

April 30, 2014 | WMFE, Orlando - Officials celebrated the Grand Opening of SunRail Wednesday, one day before the train begins regular service.

State and local leaders rode the 32 mile stretch from Debary to a bell-ringing ceremony at the Sand Lake Station.

SunRail will eventually run all the way from Poinciana to Deland.

But, as Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs pointed out, local leaders want to connect the train to other destinations too.

“Let’s not forget the next stage means a connection that Mayor Dyer and I are committed to making to you. A connection to the airport connects us to All Aboard Florida, which connects to Palm Beach, to Ft. Lauderdale, to Miami," said Jacobs.

SunRail service begins Thursday for the public and will offer two weeks of free service.

Pay service begins May 19th.
