New Finance Center in Lake Mary to Bring 700 + Jobs

April 25th, 2014 | WMFE, Orlando- Verizon opens a new center for finance and accounting in Lake Mary Friday, in a project that's expected to bring more than 700 jobs. Business leaders say it could signal a boom in the business services sector in Central Florida.

The Metro Orlando Economic Development Commission says Verizon chose Lake Mary from more than 300 other locations for its new Center of Excellence for Finance and Accounting.

The CEO of the Metro Orlando EDC, Rick Weddle says Seminole County and Lake Mary leaders have worked to attract this kind of business to the region.

“It has become the core, the hub, the centroid if you will of an emerging business services sector that is without peer really in the Southeastern United States.”

The new center will handle Verizon’s business functions like payroll and revenue assurance.

Weddle says the jobs at the center will pay more than the regional average.

And, he says the center is a sign of things to come.

“Our internal research suggests that this industry will add maybe 20,000 plus jobs over the next decade in that very narrowly defined business services sector there,” he says.
