Batterson faces one count of bribery and two counts of soliciting unlawful compensation as a public official.

In a statement Thursday evening Gov. Rick Scott announced the immediate suspension of Batterson from the expressway authority.

"All public officials must be held to the highest ethical standards – and we support State Attorney Jeff Ashton’s efforts to hold public officials accountable,” said Scott.

Orange-Osceola State Attorney Jeff Ashton announced the grand jury indictment Thursday afternoon.

Ashton said Batterson could face up to 15 years in prison and a $15,000 fine if convicted of the charges.

Ashton's office is also investigating claims that Batterson and other expressway board members violated Sunshine Laws.

The allegations accuse them of privately discussing the ouster of former expressway authority head Max Crumit.

The grand jury indicted Batterson with the following:

  • Count 1: Solicitation for bribery by a public servant
  • Count 2: Solicitation for receiving compensation for official behavior (performance of duty)
  • Count 3: Solicitation for receiving compensation for official behavior (exerting influence)

Batterson's bond was set at $2,800.
