Orange County to Review New Plans for West Orange Relief School Orange county commissioners and school board members are holding separate meetings Tuesday to review a tentative agreement regarding construction of a new relief high school in West Orange. Orange County school board members want to build a relief school at a site location known as the "Beck property”, near County Road 535 in Winter Garden. They say schools in the area are already over capacity. But county officials claim that a new high school would bring unwanted development, including traffic and noise pollution, to the rural community. The county and the school board have entered into mediation to try and strike a deal. In Tuesday's separate meetings, the school board and county officials will review the latest proposal. The compromise would keep the Beck property as the site for the new school, but would move the high school’s football stadium to a property one mile south. Additional buffers would also be built to protect the rural lifestyle of surrounding residents. If approved, Orange county and the school board would enter into a joint-use agreement for the construction and maintenance of the stadium. |
