Last Healthcare Enrollment Deadline About To Pass, But Navigators Stay On The Job

April 15th is the last Healthcare.gov deadline we'll see for a while- midnight Tuesday is the deadline for those who started the process before March 31st but couldn't complete it. But navigators will still be on the job for special enrollment.

The official number for Healthcare.gov’s open enrollment is expected to exceed 7.5 million sign ups- as more people could find their way to the exchanges through special enrollment. Lead area navigator Anne Packham says special enrollment is for people who started but couldn’t complete the process before March 31st, or who have had some kind of life change- a new baby, an income change or maybe a change in benefits.

“A lot of people are finding out in the spring as the fiscal years are coming to an end in some places that their organization is no longer going to offer health insurance, for example,” she says.

Packham says there are a number of different circumstances that can qualify someone for special enrollment, so the best thing to do is make an appointment with a navigator.
