Expressway Authority Delays Hiring New Executive Director

February 27th, 2014 | WMFE, Orlando- The Orlando Orange County Expressway Authority met Wednesday to discuss hiring a new executive director, and a senate bill which would turn the expressway authority into a larger agency overseeing roadways and mass transit.

After Mayor Teresa Jacob’s comments about an investigation into allegations some board members violated state sunshine laws, Marco Pena fired back, calling her comments hypocritical.

Pena also referred to the so-called textgate scandal involving the Orange County Commission, provoking a testy exchange with mayor Jacobs.

“I do not think it is appropriate for a board member who is backing my opponent to use his position on this board to raise these issues publicly again,” said Jacobs.

“I take offense to that because when you ran last time I was a supporter of yours," Pena replied.

Board members agreed to hold off on hiring a new executive director for two months.
