Proposed West Orange County High School On the Line Tonight February 18, 2014 | WMFE, Orlando--Orange County Commissioners and School Board members will reconsider a proposed high school tonight. The meeting is the result of a legal dispute that arose when commissioners voted down the facility plan for west Orange County. Commissioners cite concerns from neighborhood residents about parking, stadium lights and noise. Orange County School Board President Bill Sublette says overflowing student populations need relief. He says, "This decision does not just affect relieving the crowding at West Orange High School. It affects relieving crowding out in Avalon, down in Lake Nona, in the Baldwin Park area, up in Apopka and all throughout west and south Orange. Some of our very crowded schools: they’ll all be affected by this.” He says developing a new site would cost $20-35 million, meaning less funds for addressing other overflow concerns. Tonight’s meeting is open to the public and starts at 5 p.m. at West Orange High School. |
