Orange County Deputy Killed In The Line Of Duty

February 11, 2014 | WMFE, Orlando - The Orange County Sheriff's office has identified the deputy shot and killed in the line of duty overnight as Jonathan Scott Pine.

Pine was responding to a report of a burglary in Southwest Orlando minutes after midnight.

After an investigatory stop, the suspect, identified as Benjamin Holtermann, fled the scene on foot.  During the chase Pine was shot and collapsed.

He was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries.

A woman who authorities say was with Holtermann during the initial burglary call, Erica Pugh, has been charged with burglary and grand theft.

“The citizens of Orange Count lost a true hero who was tragically killed patrolling the streets of our community,” said Orange County Sheriff Jerry L. Demings in a statement.

“I ask the community for their prayers for our fallen deputy’s family.”

Pine joined the Orange County Sheriff’s office in 2011. He is survived by his wife and three children.
