Medical Marijuana Ballot Will Appear Before Voters in November

January 27, 2014 | Orlando, WMFE - Florida's Supreme Court has approved a plan to put medical marijuana on the November 2014 ballot.

The justices approved the ballot 4-to-3 just a few days after a petition drive reached the necessary number of signatures to put it on the ballot.

Attorney General Pam Bondi challenged the ballot language by saying it's misleading, but the Supreme Court ruling defeated her petition.

Supreme Court documents released today state that "voters will not be affirmatively misled regarding the purpose of the proposed amendment because the ballot title and summary accurately convey the limited use of marijuana, as determined by a licensed Florida physician..."

In a statement, former Gov. Charlie Crist said, "This is an issue of compassion, trusting doctors, and trusting the people of Florida. I will vote for it."

United for Care, which collected the signatures for the petition, is headed by Orlando lawyer John Morgan. The group said they collected over 1 million signatures.
