SeaWorld Expects Record Revenue for 2013

January 13, 2014 | WMFE - SeaWorld announced Monday it expects record revenue for 2013. The company is reporting record fourth-quarter attendance despite ongoing backlash from the documentary "Blackfish."

SeaWorld expects its 2013 revenue to be near $1.5 billion, thanks to record attendance at its theme parks in Orlando, San Antonio, Texas, and San Diego, Calif.

SeaWorld also credits promotions like holiday events and a year-long celebration of its 50th anniversary.

The record attendance numbers are being reported amid ongoing controversy over the film "Blackfish," which examines the 2010 death of trainer Dawn Brancheau.

The movie and subsequent online backlash against the company prompted nearly a dozen musicians from Willie Nelson to Barenaked Ladies to cancel performances at SeaWorld's upcoming Bands, Brew and BBQ music festival.

Trace Adkins is the latest musician to cancel a performance at the festival.
