Capen House Nearly Ready to Roll  December 6th, 2013 | WMFE- Winter Park's historic Capen House is almost ready to move across Lake Osceola to the grounds of the Albin Polasek museum. The house – which was built in 1885- is being shifted so its owners can build a new home on the property. Supporters of the historic house rallied to prevent its demolition, raising money to move it instead. The cost of the move was estimated in August around $650 thousand dollars. Debbie Komanski is the executive director of the Albin Polasek museum and sculpture garden. She says the house has been cut in two, and the first half is up on wheels… “A large semi tractor cab will come in and they will hitch the half a house to that truck and the truck will drive slowly down the lawn and then onto the barge," says Komanski. Contractors are still building a ramp so the house can travel down to the lake. Komanski says the move could happen next week. She says separating the house was an incredibly complex process and took about two months. Once the two halves are across the lake the house will be reassembled. |
