Seminole County Sheriff Declines Lt. Governor Nomination  November 26, 2013 | WMFE - Seminole County Sheriff Don Eslinger will not be Florida's new lieutenant governor. He was one of four potential nominees Governor Rick Scott named last week, but Eslinger told his employees Monday that he chose to "respectfully decline." [Image: Seminole County Sheriff Don Eslinger] In an email to all Seminole County Sheriff’s Office staff, Eslinger said he told Governor Scott he was “flattered and honored” to be considered for the appointment to lieutenant governor. But, Eslinger wrote, “It is my intention to continue serving the people of Seminole County as their Sheriff. With your untiring assistance and dedication, we have built our organization into one of the finest law enforcement and corrections agencies known throughout our state.” Former Lieutenant Governor Jennifer Carroll resigned in March in the midst of an investigation into a group she once did consulting work for, Allied Veterans of the World. The group was accused of operating as a front for a $300 million Internet café gambling operation. Eslinger was a leader in that investigation. The other potential nominees are state Senator Tom Lee of Brandon, Hillsborough County Commissioner Sandy Murman, and Saint Johns County Schools Superintendent Joseph Joyner. |
