Immigration Key Topic at Hispanic Legislators Summit

November 15th, 2013 | WMFE Latino lawmakers from across the U.S. are in Orlando today for the National Caucus of Hispanic Legislators summit.

NCHL President Minnie Gonzalez says meeting in Central Florida is strategic.

"We know that Orlando is a key for the election," says Gonzalez.

"We have a lot of Latinos here.  You know, they mentioned a couple of states, but I think that most of the board – they voted for Orlando."

Representative Gonzalez is also Connecticut’s majority whip at large.

She says a major issue for the NCHL is immigration – and that its members are frustrated with the slow pace of reform.

She says House Speaker John Boehner’s refusal this week to take up the Senate plan treats immigration reform like “a game.”

Gonzalez says Hispanic voters make their own play– in the next election.
