Sanford’s off-leash Paw Park opened in what used to be Jaycee Park in 2001.

Historic Preservation officer Christine Dalton says it’s become a hub for urban revitalization- partly because it’s so accessible.

“You could be on first street and walk over to this park and it’s not something you necessarily have to drive to," says Dalton

"So the park is heavily used by our residents in the historic district and in and around the downtown.”

The Paw Park Village designation covers the park and the adjacent city block to the north.

Nearby businesses include a pet wash and dog treat bakery, and a pet rescue and veterinary clinic is also set to open soon.

Dalton says the city is also working with Seminole County on a plan to further improve the area around the park.
