Father of Chechen Man Slain in FBI Interrogation Retains Counsel, Seeks Answers August 13, 2013 | WMFE - The father of a Chechen man shot and killed in Orlando during an FBI interrogation about the Boston bombings says he wants the truth about his son's death. Abdulbaki Todashev spoke with reporters Tuesday in Tampa about his son, Ibragim. He says his son was not involved in the bombings, and he's retained counsel to assist with a criminal investigation into his son's death. Abdulbaki Todashev retained Tampa-area attorneys Barry Cohen and Eric Ludin. He also extended a visit from Chechnya to assist Central Florida State Attorney Jeff Ashton with a criminal investigation. Speaking through a translator, Todashev says his 27-year-old son was planning to return home at the time of his death. "He had bought a ticket for the 24th of May, 2013, but on the night of the 21st to the 22nd his life was cut short." The FBI says agents were interrogating Ibragim Todashev about the Boston bombings when he turned violent, forcing an agent to kill him. The newly-hired family attorneys say their investigation shows the slain man was unarmed and disabled by recent knee surgery. They say Ibragim Todashev trained at the same gym as one of the suspected Boston bombers but only was an acquaintance. Abdulbaki Todashev is considering civil action. |
