Activists Praise Webster's Support for Immigration Reform

August 5, 2013 | WMFE - Central Florida activists are cheering Congressman Dan Webster's support for immigration reform. It's the first time the Winter Garden Republican has voiced support for a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants.

Bishop Ricardo McClin of PICO United Florida says he's heartened by Webster's statements.

"This is an issue of human rights and dignity, and you know this is as everybody says a promised land. This is the land of freedom, and that's what we're preaching about."

McClin, who is pastor of Restoration Church of God in Kissimmee, says he sees families being torn apart by immigration problems.

He says any pathway to citizenship that exists now for these families is too long and costly.

Activists increased their pressure to approve immigration reform as Congress adjourned for its five-week break.

Already the Senate has approved a bill, ushered in by Florida Republican Senator Marco Rubio.
