Pauline Stubbendieck says she’s pretty confident now that her 17-year old daughter Elizabeth has learned healthy habits that will stick with her through life.  That wasn’t the case 3-years ago when Elizabeth’s pediatrician warned she was overweight. So Stubbendieck signed her daughter up for Florida Hospital’s Healthy 100 Kids. “It’s been wonderful. I have been so pleased with her progress and with the people we’ve been dealing with there,” she says.

Elizabeth participates in the weight and wellness component of the program. Every six months she has one-on-one meetings with a doctor, a psychologist, a dietician and an exercise physiologist. She’s lost 35 pounds so far and continues to make progress.

There is also a series of workshops and classes which help make Healthy 100 Kids one of the most comprehensive childhood obesity programs in the state. Medical Director Angela Fals says some families drive more than an hour to participate. “We have families now, they’re coming very easily from an hour to an hour and a half radius, from Lake county and Brevard county and then they are driving up from South Florida, even from Boca Raton,” she says.

Healthy 100 Kids is serving about 1400- children, and enrolls nearly 50 new families every month. And it’s about to announce a new partnership with the Central Florida YMCA, which should help the program grow even more.
