July 16th, 2013 | WMFE - After deliberating for sixteen hours, a jury in Seminole County found George Zimmerman not guilty of second degree murder in the shooting death of unarmed seventeen year old Trayvon Martin. The incident and the trial sparked debate on issues of race and injustice both in Central Florida and across the US. To talk more about how perceptions of race played a role in this case 90.7's Matthew Peddie speaks with Dr. Kareem Jordan, Associate Professor of Criminal Justice at the University of Central Florida. Also, the NAACP is the oldest and largest civil rights organisation in the United States, and this week - and its annual convention is in Orlando for the first time. Marvin Randolph, Senior Vice President of Campaigns and Sammie Dow, National Youth and College Director talk about Civil Rights in Florida and the NAACP's initiatives and plans for the future.
