Intersection | Voting Rights Act and Scams, Cons and Fraud

July 9th, 2013 | WMFE - In their final week of session the United States Supreme Court ruled 5-4 to strike down section four of the historic Voting Rights Act. The provisions of section four required federal pre-clearance for certain voting jurisdictions, including five counties in Florida, before changing any voting rules or regulations. The decision concerns voting rights activists - including the league of women voters. 90.7's Matthew Peddie speaks with co-presidents of the Orange County League of Women Voters Michelle Levy and Sandra Powers about the impact the decision has on Florida and their plan to make sure voters rights are upheld without that section of the act. Also, Florida ranks second in the US for internet fraud reported to the FBI. Researcher and lecturer Bill Kahn talks with Matthew Peddie about some common scams and why people fall for them.
