June 18th, 2013 | WMFE- One month after the hotly contested 2000 US presidential election, the Florida Supreme Court ordered a statewide manual recount of votes. Just one day later the US Supreme Court overturned that decision, ensuring the election of republican George W Bush as the 43rd president of the United States, and ending the presidential hopes of his rival, Vice President Al Gore.

This week on Intersection, 90.7's Matthew Peddie talks to former Florida Supreme Court chief justice Charles Wells about his new book Inside Bush V. Gore, an account of how Wells and his fellow justices worked to resolve the election, grappling with ballot problems like hanging chads, dimpled chads and absentee ballots- and problems with the state’s election laws.
