Intersection | Impact of Zimmerman Trial on Sanford June 4, 2013 WMFE - The trial of George Zimmerman begins June 10th in Sanford Florida. Zimmerman is facing second degree murder charges for the killing of seventeen year old Trayvon Martin in February of last year. Zimmerman says he acted in self defense when he shot the unarmed African American teenager. 90.7's Matthew Peddie speaks with Orlando Sentinel columnist Darryl Owens about the social impact of the incident and the effect of the upcoming trial on the city of Sanford and Central Florida's black community. Also, 90.7's Amy Green traveled to Sanford's historic African American community of Goldsboro to speak to the residents there about their thoughts on the upcoming trial.
