Mayor Jacobs Will Run for Re-election - Who May Challenge Her?

April 25, 2013 | WMFE - Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs made her re-election bid official earlier this week, filing paperwork that declares she'll run for another four-year term in 2014. Jacobs, a Republican, has no challengers yet, but 90.7 political analyst Dick Batchelor says he has an idea who the Democratic candidate may be.

“The only person that’s been talked about, openly at least, is Val Demings, who is the former police chief of Orlando, who ran for Congress last time and was not successful," says Batchelor. "But she has a tremendous amount of name recognition and she has not totally ruled out running yet, so Val Demings would be the strongest candidate in my opinion.”

However, Batchelor says it’s generally tough to unseat an incumbent with solid support and fundraising ability like Jacobs.
