Gov. Scott Touts State's Lowest Jobless Rate in Four Years

April 19, 2013 | WMFE - Governor Rick Scott announced Florida's unemployment rate dipped to the 7.5 percent last month, the state's lowest jobless rate in more than four years. Unemployment numbers in the Orlando area are improving as well by a small margin, according to a report released today.

March's 7.5 percent unemployment rate is the lowest Florida has seen since 2008, and it's continuing a downward trend from February's 7.8 percent.

Florida's rate comes in just below the national unemployment rate of 7.6 percent for March.

Governor Rick Scott touted Florida's March numbers at a stop in Naples Friday, saying the declining jobless rate is in stark contrast to the economic climate before he became governor in January 2011. Scott ran for office on a promise of creating 700,000 jobs within seven years of election.

The unemployment rate fell in the metro Orlando area, as well. It stands at 6.6 percent for March, down half a percentage point from February.
